“It seems that the interaction of my sensibility with the demands of the medium of watercolor had produced a desire in me to not only simplify what I saw but to alter it to please my growing interest in design. Once begun, this trend grew in me to the point that I could no longer pretend that I was strictly painting what I saw. I was exaggerating and inventing as much as I was discovering. With this series of paintings I had awakened the Magician within me. I felt liberated, free to do as I pleased.

The last painting of the series, #16, is a meditation on the Muse-like aspect of femininity with the book (secrets), and the rose (vagina), and the exotic countenance of the Muse, with her jewels and tassels, turned away and glancing back at you, the viewer/voyeur/poet/artist. ”
